Millions of years ago, the supercontinent Pangaea broke apart, and dinosaurs became passengers on these drifting land masses. The result? Dinosaurs with unusual - and sometimes bizarre - features that are different from the ones we know and love. Based on new, groundbreaking research from scientists around the world, Ultimate Dinosaurs reveals a new breed of dinosaurs that evolved in isolation in South America, Africa and Madagascar. From the tiny Buitreraptor to the massive Giganotosaurus (T. rex's bigger, badder cousin), Ultimate Dinosaurs is a fascinating study of species you may not have met before. See Ultimate Dinosaurs October 12, 2014, through April 12, 2015, at SCI!

221 Walnut St, Des Moines
Join the versatile vocal group and their soulful live band backing the high-octane vocal group's always fabulous and energetic mixture of carols, Christmas standards and their own originals that sound like holiday classics! The self-described vocal band of 25 years has been a longtime major influence on many subsequent vocal groups that have formed since The Blenders first performed in their hometown of Fargo in 1990, especially those in the Midwest. The Blenders’ own influences stretch far and wide and thel band has forged a sound that’s earned them a huge fan base, critical acclaim and accolades from recording artists such as pop diva Erykah Badu to the legendary Les Paul, plus three Emmy Awards. The Blenders' musical style has been an ongoing process of experimentation and evolution. We started out doing strictly a-cappella in the early 90's when very few groups existed, and in the mid to late 90's transformed into a pop vocal band with instrumentation,” notes Darren Rust, the group’s bass singer, producer and arranger. “We then transitioned back into a-cappella in the 2000's with our early Christmas albums. After that, we put out a couple of tribute-type albums called Song's from the Soul, which again had a full band backing us up.

Holiday Inn Downtown, Des Moines
Join NAWBO Iowa (National Association of Women Business Owners Iowa) at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 18, at Holiday Inn Downtown Des Moines for the chapter’s monthly luncheon and program. Does time spent on appearance cut into your productivity? Or does this boost confidence, and thereby enhance your productivity? In September, Lift IOWA shared a TED Talk featuring an Australian news anchor persuading women to spend less time on their personal grooming and more time enjoying pursuits that matter. Some 81% of Lift IOWA readers who responded to a survey believed the time spent on their personal appearance was NOT at the expense of their productivity. Some 19% felt it was. The December 18 NAWBO Iowa program delves into what gives you confidence in your professional interactions. What do you do to make the best first impression when meeting with clients? Does society and advertising’s images of women impact your efforts? Can feeling good about your body and physical appearance boost productivity? And how do you efficiently utilize the time you spend readying yourself for your business day? Hear four speakers share their viewpoints, reactions and ideas at this end-of-year luncheon. Speakers are professional image consultant Debbie Marshall of Thrive,Nancy Pedersen of Mary Kay Cosmetics, Whitney Custer of Cor Yoga Therapy and Lauren M.G. Burt, etiquette advisor and founder of Modern Grace. RSVP by noon Tuesday, December 15, 2014, at www.NAWBOIowa.org. Cost through noon on December 15, is $25 for NAWBO Iowa members; $35 for non-members. Guests of members attend at member rates. After noon on Tuesday, December 15, add $10 to your registration. Cancellations must be made by noon on Tuesday, December 15. Registrations not cancelled by noon on December 15 will be billed. Email info@NAWBOIowa.org with questions.
