Spirited: Prohibition in America, Exhibit      7/20/2014 12:00:00 AM
(515)278-5286
11121 Hickman Road, Urbandale
Explore the history of Prohibition, from the dawn of the temperance movement to the unprecedented repeal of a constitutional amendment in 1933. This traveling exhibition from NEH on the Road brings visitors back to the period of flappers and suffragists, bootleggers and temperance lobbyists, and real-life legends, such as Al Capone and Carry Nation. Through strong visual and interactive elements, Spirited draws on histories from both sides of the issue. Experience the inventive and ingenious ways lawmakers and the America public responded to Prohibition. Open during normal hours. www.LivingHistoryFarms.org
Shrek      7/20/2014 12:00:00 AM
831 42nd St, Des Moines
In a kingdom far, far away, things get ugly when an ogre, not a handsome prince, shows up to rescue a feisty Princess. Throw in a wisecracking Donkey, a villain with a short temper, a Gingerbread Man with attitude, and other fairy tale misfits, and you've got a mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily there’s one on hand, and his name is Shrek. Shrek is part romance, part twisted fairy tale, and all irreverent fun. Wednesday-Saturday shows are at 7:30 PM. Sunday shows are at 2:00 PM.
