Food, Fitness & Fun in History: The 5th Annual Homeschool Day at 9:00 AM on 9/3/2014
||9/3/2014 9:00:00 AM
||11121 Hickman Road
Urbandale, IA 50322
Offered twice: Wed, Aug. 27, and Wed, Sept. 3, 2014. Homeschoolers are always welcome at Living History Farms!
During the events on these two days, explore how food and nutrition have been a constant in history, from too little food to too much. Discover the impact that changes in technology had on how people produced, prepared, and preserved food that people ate. Learn also about how technology changed the tasks people did. Special demonstrations each day will allow you to learn about food and nutrition in history. How many calories do you burn off playing checkers vs. printing with a foot-powered press? How many horsepower does your body generate, compared to a tractor or car? How long does it take to turn cream into butter, or to cook in an open hearth vs. a microwave?
