A new building at 357 Lincoln St. in West Des Moines, which will be used to package meals for hungry people all over the world, will be dedicated Thursday, May 15 at 1 p.m. Gov. Terry Branstad will speak at the dedication of the Patty Cownie Center for Meals from the Heartland. Cownie was the lead contributor for the new $1.9 million center. Bill Knapp donated the land. Meals from the Heartland uses volunteers to package millions of dehydrated, nutritionally-balanced meals that are sent to starving people around the world yearly.
