After years on 36th Street, the Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) is moving both its offices and its warehouse to a new home at 1435 Mulberry St. The former Central Iowa Shelter & Services building has been purchased and is currently undergoing renovation, according to a press release. The move will nearly quadruple the warehouse space available for food pantry storage, going from 1,600 square feet to 6,000. It also will allow DMARC to purchase more food in bulk at less cost, saving the organization $250,000 per year, the release said, and reduce pickup and delivery costs to its 13 partner food pantry locations. DMARC plans to be in the new space by the end of the year.
