The percentage of American adults who smoke cigarettes, which has hovered stubbornly at about 20 percent for years, dipped to 18 percent this year in a periodic national health survey conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Smoking is the leading cause of preventable illness, and helping smokers quit is a key component of wellness programs. The study did not include teens, according to MSN Money.
