Central Iowa Shelter & Services in downtown Des Moines has a new greenhouse in its courtyard and soon will begin to grow fresh vegetables to feed shelter clients and to help train them in food preparation as a potential job skill, thanks to a $135,000 contribution from DuPont Pioneer for the structure and money from United Way of Central Iowa to provide training. DesMoinesRegister.com reports the shelter is seeking more help from the community for classes for residents in gardening, food preparation and sales.
