The Iowa Grocery Industry Association is accepting application for its annual Build with Bags grants. The program provides grants to schools and parks in Iowa as an incentive for communities to increase plastic bag recycling efforts. In the past four years the grant program has donated $153,677 to more than 100 schools and parks statewide to purchase recycled plastic equipment and furniture, and has kept hundreds of thousands of plastic bags out of landfills. Build with Bags is a cooperative effort of the IGIA with Keep Iowa Beautiful, Metro Waste Authority in Des Moines, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, City Carton Recycling and The Des Moines Register. Participating retailers include all Dahl's, Fareway and Hy-Vee locations statewide as well as many independent grocers throughout the state. Details on how to apply, as well as selection criteria, are outlined online. The deadline to apply is March 30.
