Wells Fargo & Co. is celebrating 20 years of participating in Habitat for Humanity home builds with its 5,000th volunteer build and a tree-planting ceremony at a Habitat project on East 16th Street in Des Moines. The Wells Fargo Housing Foundation and its Team Member Volunteer Program got its start in Des Moines in 1993 with the company's first build, according to a news release. Since then, the foundation and program have grown to provide coast-to-coast financial assistance of $278 million and 4.7 million volunteer hours. In the metro area, Wells Fargo team members have volunteered to help build 72 homes with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Des Moines, and the foundation has donated $2.1 million to local nonprofits through the Team Member Volunteer Program.
