West Des Moines-based Ashworth Credit Union plans to merge with Waterloo-based Veridian Credit Union. Ashworth members approved the merger on April 29. The Iowa Division of Credit Unions and the National Credit Union Administration also have approved the merger, which is expected to be complete on June 29. Ashworth Credit Union was established in 1957 to serve employees of GuideOne Mutual Insurance Co. and currently serves 900 members. Ashworth leaders cited members' desire for additional services and the increasing complexity of financial industry regulations as reasons for pursuing the merger. The state's largest credit union, Veridian has more than 175,000 members and employs more than 600 people in 26 branches.
