Business conditions in Iowa declined slightly last month, according to one index, but conditions are still at a "very healthy level."

Iowa's reading in the Mid-America Business Conditions Index, which is overseen by Ernie Goss, director of Creighton University's Economic Forecasting Group, was 63.3 in September, down from a reading of 65.6 in August.

The index ranges from 0 to 100, with a reading over 50 indicating an expanding economy. Iowa's reading was higher than the
overall nine-state Midwest index, which was 54.8. The Midwest index increased from a 53.8 reading in August.

The index surveys business leaders in Iowa, Arkansas, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Oklahoma.
