Coventry Health Care today announced a new benefit for its Iowa and Nebraska customers which it said could significantly reduce premiums for businesses with employees in other states. Effective April 1, all Coventry point-of-service plans in the two states will include the Coventry National Network as a "wrap" around their current benefits, meaning members will be able to access a national network of providers at preferred in-network benefit levels. The national network includes more than 700,000 care providers, including 6,800 hospitals nationwide. The change provides an affordable new choice for customers who otherwise had to choose a more costly preferred provider plan to get out-of-state network coverage, said Dale Mackel, president of Coventry's Iowa and Nebraska operations. Coventry is a part of Aetna Inc., which acquired the company in August 2012. Coventry members will receive new ID cards this month that will add the national network logo.
