Des Moines was the No. 5 city for finding a job in the first quarter of 2014, according to an index compiled byjob search website ZipRecruiter.

ZipRecruiter compiled its rankings by looking at the number of job postings on its website as well as by sorting the top 50 metropolitan areas by unemployment rate and taking into account industries that are experiencing job creation in those markets.

Des Moines was helped by a 4.4 percent unemployment rate and the "recession-proof industries" of insurance and health care. ZipRecruiter also points out the city's Forbes ranking as the best place for business and careers and the recent NBC News ranking as the wealthiest city in America.

Salt Lake City came in at No. 1 on the list, and the Midwestern cities of Omaha, Madison and Minneapolis-St. Paul round out the top four. Austin, Texas, came in at No. 6.

The index found that the top five job categories nationwide listed on its site are in sales, health care, trucking, information technology and insurance.
