The city of Johnston is seeking
public comment on a planning study to redevelop Merle Hay Road between
Interstate 35/80 and Northwest 55th Avenue.
The plan, which was authored by
Hoisington Koegler Group Inc. in conjunction with a market study prepared by
AECOM, explores the potential of vacant and underutilized parcels in the
corridor, identifies target uses and develops implementation strategies for the
city and property owners.
"As one of only two
gateways into the city from Interstate 35/80, this area is a recognizable and
critical area of the city, thus this planning effort has been undertaken to
ensure the area is developed/redeveloped in a manner that maximizes the
potential of the area," the city said in a press release.
The Johnston Planning and
Zoning Commission is scheduled to consider the plan on Monday night, and the
City Council is tentatively scheduled to consider the plan on Sept. 16. The
public can comment at both meetings, which will begin at 7 p.m. at Johnston
City Hall, 6221 Merle Hay Road.
The public can also see
the draft plan online, where a comment form is available.
