The family of the late Robert Rigler, a former Iowa state senator and superintendent of banking, received the Iowa Bankers Association James Leach Leadership Award in his honor during the association's annual convention, which concludes today in Des Moines. Rigler had a 63-year career in banking, most of those spent at Security State Bank in Hampton. He was elected to the Iowa Senate in 1954, where he served for 16 years and played a key role in rewriting the state banking code. He was superintendent of banking from 1989 to 1991. Rigler passed away in February. The award is named for former U.S. Rep. James Leach of Iowa, who served a term as chairman of the House Banking Committee during his 30 years in Congress.
