Iowa State University President Steven Leath — who has struggled to shake off a controversy over his use of university planes, despite strong growth at the school and other successes — reportedly is on the short list of candidates to lead Auburn University. The Auburn trustees are expected to name a president today, and the Opelika-Auburn News said Leath's land-grant and agricultural background would make him a strong candidate at the Alabama school, several unnamed sources told the newspaper. In a lengthy interview with the Business Record last year, Leath was asked if he would be in Iowa in five years.
