A number of companies with Iowa operations will share part of a $6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to reduce costs associated with harvesting, handling and preprocessing biomass feedstocks, such as corn stover and switchgrass. The process will focus on getting those feedstocks from the field to biorefinery more efficiently and improving biomass handling and processing equipment for biorefineries. The 16-member team includes Vermeer Corp., Monsanto Co., POET LLC and Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. The grant will fund a three-year project.
