The Environmental Law and Policy Center is hosting a bus tour of solar energy installations in Greater Des Moines on Thursday. The fact-finding tour, the third held by ELPC in Iowa, provides an opportunity for state legislators and other elected officials to learn more about solar energy, said Steve Falck, an ELPC senior policy advocate. Des Moines is among three Iowa cities and two counties that will pilot a Rooftop Solar Challengeinitiative through a $1.03 million federal grant announced earlier this month. The tour, which will begin at Van Meter Inc. in Urbandale, will also include stops at DART Central Station, the Iowa Utilities Board/Office of Consumer Advocate Building, the Franklin Avenue Library and the Urbandale Hy-Vee store, each of which use solar systems. State Sen. Janet Petersen, Sen. Brad Zaun and Rep. Kevin Koester are co-hosting the event. Limited seating may be available by contacting Steve Falck at (515) 244-3113 or S.Falck@elpc.org.
