The short forms for Iowa individual income tax (IA 1040A) and Iowa corporation income tax (IA 1120A) will be discontinued as of tax year 2013 due to declining usage, the Iowa Department of Revenue announced. Taxpayers who may have used these forms in the past will need to use the IA 1040 or IA 1120 beginning in tax year 2013. Usage of the forms has declined by 50 percent in the past five years and in total only about 20,000 short forms are expected to be received for tax year 2012, said Victoria Daniels, a department spokeswoman. About 97 percent of taxpayers that use the form are eligible to file their returns electronically for free, she said. "Hopefully it will shift more people to electronic filing, which is a money and time-saver for everybody," Daniels said.
