Non-farm business labor productivity increased at a 2.3 percent annual rate during the second quarter, according to U.S. Department of Labor statistics released today.

The department reported increases of 3.7 percent in output and 1.4 percent in hours worked, over the previous quarter. Compared with the same quarter a year ago, productivity increased 0.3 percent, output rose 2.1 percent and hours rose 1.7 percent.

Manufacturing productivity rose 1.9 percent in the second quarter.
