down the financial support -- from local business leaders -- in the
Republican primary race for Iowa's 3rd District congressional seat being
vacated by Tom Latham. David Young, a former staffer for Sen. Charles Grassley,
was chosen last month at a Republican convention. Among his supporters: the
family of Dick Levitt, who's family founded and grew
Dial Finance in Des Moines, which was purchased in 1982 by Norwest
Corporation. In 1998, Norwest and Well Fargo merged and Norwest took the Wells
Fargo name, according to a 2000 Wells Fargo news release.
