An Arizona-based company has been ordered to cease telephone sales pitches in Iowa following an investigation by the Iowa attorney general. In a court order issued last week, Fresh Start Handicapped Workers Inc. and its owners, Paul and Martha Giza, were ordered to end the solicitations for high-priced household products, the proceeds from which the company claimed would help disabled workers. The consent judgment ended an investigation that began with an undercover investigation in October 2012. In addition to barring future Iowa solicitations, the consent judgment requires Fresh Start to pay $10,000 to a state consumer protection enforcement fund, and to make refunds to Iowans who request them. As part of the consent judgment, the defendants denied wrongdoing.
