The Des Moines City Council will be asked at today's meeting to accept $25,000 as the final and only payment on a $100,000 economic development loan to Palisade Systems Inc., which has been sold to a Vancouver, Canada, company. In 2010, the council approved the loan in an effort to assist the company's planned $6 million expansion that was to create 46 jobs over three years. Palisade Systems' employment peaked at 24 in 2011, according to a city staff report. The city also attempted to renegotiate the loan in a proposed sale of the company earlier this year. However, that sale did not close and company's secured lenders agreed to an asset sale to Absolute Software Corp. of Vancouver. The council vote today would terminate the loan.
