External funding down at Iowa State

External funding at Iowa State University dropped to $326.4 million in fiscal year 2013, down from $360.2 million the year prior, which was the second-highest on record, the university said today. That represents a 9.37 percent decrease. Much of the decrease is because of the federal sequester triggered by failed budget negotiations in Congress. Total federal funding of $172.7 million was down more than 17 percent at the university over last year's total. Officials say part of the funding has been delayed by the sequester, and they expect to see more transfers by the end of the federal fiscal year on Sept. 30. Of the $326.4 million, $193.8 million was the result of successful research proposals submitted by ISU faculty and scientific staff. For more information, click here.
