Iowa small business employment decreased by 0.08 percent in January, according to the Intuit Payroll Small Business Index.

The index, which draws data from about 171,000 small business customers nationwide of Intuit Online Payroll and QuickBooks Online Payroll, shows that small businesses nationwide created 20,000 jobs in January.

The index also shows that, nationally, average monthly pay for small business employees decreased by 0.2 percent in the month to $2,676, and monthly hours worked increased 0.9 percent to 105.1 hours.
