A new art gallery opened on Nov. 1 inside Merle Hay Mall.

The Central Iowa Artist Gallery will contain artwork from approximately 15 artists who will show and sell art out of the location in the Target wing of the mall. The artists can also be contracted for work. The gallery is intended to be a hub of local paintings, jewelry, sculpture and other imaginative artworks.

The gallery was the vision of two local artists, painter Monika Agic of Art by Magic and photographer Dana Barrer. The idea came out of the desire to have a location for artists to share their art year-round, instead of just at art shows.

The store will be open from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and from noon to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Agic, who immigrated to America from Bosnia, was profiled as an up-and-coming artist in the Des Moines Business Record's Sept. 7 issue. Read the story about Agic at tiny.cc/agic.
