This year's Forty Under 40 alum of the year is Robert ("Bob" to most) Andeweg, who is mayor of one of Des Moines' largest suburbs — Urbandale — and a lawyer at Nyemaster Goode P.C. A member of the Forty Class of '02, he has been mayor since 2005 and was on the City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission for years before that.
Andeweg is known for his regional view on a lot of issues. He has been a leader in both the Capital Crossroads planning effort and the Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. He also has served on the Greater Des Moines Partnership board and executive committee, the board of the Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Bravo Greater Des Moines board, and the Metropolitan Advisory Council.
Nominator Kristina Stanger called Andeweg "a leader, a visionary and a lifelong servant at the grassroots in our community who is committed to economic growth and showcasing Central Iowa's development and gems. ... He models the importance of hard work, positive attitude and sincere care for those he serves and brings out the same in those that surround him.
"As with many Forty under 40 alums, Bob expanded on this service that earned him the initial honor to continue to give back, do more and motivate the rest of us to do the same."
Andeweg is a former board member and president of the Iowa Commercial Real Estate Association. In 2015, he was named the Best Real Estate Lawyer in Des Moines by Best Lawyers.
He has a bachelor's degree in political science with a minor in economics from Central College and a law degree, with honors, from Drake University.
