The Iowa Speedway in Newton is hoping for $8 million in additional funding from state lawmakers that could lead to a major expansion of the facility, WHO-TV reported. State Representative  Dan Kelley, a Newton Democrat, told the station that he wants to lure a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race to the track. The Sprint Cup is the highest level of NASCAR; a step above the series that currently race at the track. The speedway would use the public money to expand its current 40,000 seat capacity to 100,000.
