Iowa's unemployment rate held at 5 percent in February despite a slight increase in the number of unemployed Iowans, according to Iowa Workforce Development.

The unemployment rate is down from 5.4 percent in February 2012. 

The number of unemployed Iowans rose to 82,600 in February, up from 81,600 in January. That number was 6,700 lower than the February 2012 figure of 89,300. 

The total number of working Iowans increased by 5,900 from January and decreased by 8,100 from February 2012. Nonfarm employment was up 800 people month-over-month.

Manufacturing increased by 900 jobs, the fifth consecutive month of gains for that sector. Construction added 700 jobs, as did leisure and hospitality.

Trade and transportation lost 2,400 jobs in February. Information declined by 400 jobs.
