The NCAA has awarded Des Moines first- and second-round games in the 2019 NCAA men's basketball tournament, an encore performance for a community that successfully staged the games in 2016, when Iowa State University served as host at Wells Fargo Arena. Because Drake University will host the games at Wells Fargo Arena in 2019, ISU would be eligible to be assigned to the Des Moines site, should it make the tourney. Drake would have to play somewhere else. The local committee that landed the tournament games again is led by Principal Financial Group Chairman, President and CEO Daniel Houston.
