London-based insurer Aviva Plc will cut as many as 2,000 jobs worldwide, Reuters reported.

Chief Executive Mark Wilson said staff cuts would be about 6 percent of Aviva Group's global workforce.

Aviva, which is in the process of selling its West Des Moines-based subsidiary Aviva USA, is trying to deliver more than $609 million in cost savings by year-end.

Aviva USA will not be affected by the job reductions, which apply only to Aviva's U.K., European and Asian units, said Kevin Waetke, an Aviva USA spokesman.
