Homesteaders Life Co. has appointed Marla Lacey as executive vice president and general counsel, and Kim Medici Shelquist as vice president of planning and development. Both will be promoted to their new positions effective Jan. 1. Lacey joined the West Des Moines insurer  in 2012 as associate general counsel and leads the company's team of legal and compliance professionals. Her promotion is part of a planned transition from its longstanding relationship with George Wilson, who served as general counsel for the past 30 years. Prior to joining Homesteaders, Lacey was associate general counsel and chief compliance officer for American Equity Investment Life Holding Co. Medici Shelquist, who joined Homesteaders in 2009 as director of marketing communications, will lead the newly created planning and development team in  identifying and evaluating opportunities for company growth and long-term security. She previously served as business development and communications director for Hospice of Central Iowa and holds an MBA from the University of Iowa.
