Attorney General Tom Miller warned Iowans about scammers who may falsely claim that their health care offerings are affiliated or compliant with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. In a press release issued Wednesday, Miller said the state is investigating reports of "discount health plan" advertisements that may be falsely marketing those plans as qualified health insurance plans. Under the federal health care law, all health plans offered through the online marketplace must meet certain minimum coverage requirements, such as providing essential health benefits. Consumers who suspect insurance fraud should contact the Consumer Protection Division at (515) 281-5926.
