Wells Fargo & Co. told an additional 263 team members today that they were no longer on the roster.
Angela Kaipust, a company spokeswoman, said the majority of the staff reductions were in Wells Fargo’s credit card call center in West Des Moines. There were also layoffs of mortgage and consumer loan processing team members as well, she said.
“This is part of an effort to consolidate operations to operate in the most efficient manner possible,” Kaipust said.
The layoffs were not part of a larger companywide reduction. All of the 263 team members were given at least 60 days’ notice, and the company is “making every effort” to find alternate positions for as many of the employees as possible; most will be eligible for separation benefits, she said.
Prior to the layoffs, Wells Fargo employed more than 13,500 team members in Greater Des Moines. In the past two months, Wells Fargo has laid off 145 Greater Des Moines workers as part of larger national layoffs.
