Iowa State University has joined a program that will allow it to replace 8,000 faculty and staff office and laboratory phones and move them to a cloud-based system, saving the university about $600,000 a year. Iowa State has joined the Internet2 NET + SIP Program. Internet2 is a member-owned advanced technology community founded by the nation's leading higher education institutions. It consists of more than 220 universities, 60 leading corporations and 70 government agencies. The ISU services will be provided by Aastra Technologies Ltd. and Level 3 Communications LLC. The new service is anticipated to begin July 1, said James Davis, ISU vice provost for information technology and chief information officer.
