More than one nonprofit organization stands to benefit from this year's Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute's annual project partnership. This year, class members will collectively select up to four projects to complete as part of a restructuring of the program, the organization announced.

The restructuring of the class project is aimed at exposing class members to a wider variety of nonprofit partners and community needs, said Amy Jennings, executive director of the Greater Des Moines Leadership Institute.

"The reorganization of the class project was a concerted effort, supported by the board, which will enable additional area nonprofit organizations to benefit from a partnership with Greater Des Moines' up-and-coming leaders while those leaders gain valuable experience in leading change and making a meaningful impact on the community," Jennings said in a release.

The institute is now seeking project proposals from community organizations, subject to the following conditions:

  • The project must benefit an existing 501(c)(3) organization and contribute to increased quality of life for the beneficiaries and the Greater Des Moines community.
  • The financial contribution from the GDMLI class cannot exceed $5,000.
  • The project must leverage the diverse talents and skill sets of community leaders with diverse backgrounds.
  • The organization must contribute to the project completion. The organization's contribution may include financial, donor network, volunteer base or other specialized skills and resources.

Organizations are encouraged to submit projects of all types and sizes for consideration. The project proposal must be received by 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22. Details, including the request for proposal form and additional examples of class projects, may be viewed at gdmli.com/class_projects. Contact Kirsten Anderson, class project chair, at 515-360-6877 or gdmliclassproject@gmail.comfor questions or help.

Nonprofit leaders considering submitting a proposal are encouraged to attend an informational session for organizations making submissions at 5 p.m. Aug. 11 at Metro Waste Authority, 300 E. Locust St.
