A large majority of Americans believe that telecommuting is a good idea for both workers and employers, CNNMoney.com reported.

A poll of 1,000 Americans conducted by the research firm ORC International found that 65 percent of those questioned believe people work productively at home. But 29 percent believe they spend most of their time "goofing off."

The poll also found that 11 percent of Americans are currently telecommuting, and another 16 percent have telecommuted in the past.
