Des Moines Area Community College honored businesses in five categories at its first Small Business Awards Banquet last week. The winners were:
  • Substance Architecture, which designed DART Central Station and the Principal Riverwalk Pavilion and Pump Station, was named Most Innovative Company.
  • Mike Draper, founder of Raygun LLC, was named Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
  • Iowa Beef Systems LLC, an agricultural construction company based in Huxley, was named Top Growth Company.
  • CR Painting, founded by DMACC graduate Caleb Roney, won the Dennis Albaugh Award.
  • Puck Enterprises, a manufacturer of Drag Hose manure application equipment in Manning, was named Small Business of the Year.

DMACC plans to make the awards ceremony an annual event.
