Gov. Terry Branstad said today that he and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds have volunteered to pay 20 percent of their state-provided health-care costs, effective Aug. 1. Branstad signed Executive Order 78 today to allow state employees to voluntarily pay for 20 percent of their own health care, according to a news release. The governor has asked all statewide elected officials and department heads to volunteer as well, according to the release. A single person who pays 20 percent of his or her costs on the least expensive state insurance plan will save taxpayers at least $1,000, according to the release.
