The American Heart Association is teaming up with the YMCA of Greater Des Moines to offer free hands-only CPR and automated external defibrillator training to the public, starting today. Trainers will teach people how to perform hands-only CPR to the beat of "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees, which has a rate of 100 beats per minute. Hands-only CPR has been shown to be equally effective as CPR with breaths, and people are likely to feel more comfortable performing it, according to the American Heart Association. Training sessions will take place every 30 minutes at the following times and locations: until 11 a.m. today at the YMCA Healthy Living Center, 12493 University Ave., Clive; from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Walnut Creek YMCA, 948 73rd St., Windsor Heights; and from 7:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riverfront YMCA, 101 Locust St.
