The Wellmark Foundation announced it has awarded more than $404,000 to 19 recipients in its 2014 Healthy Communities small grant program. The program supports projects of $25,000 or less that are catalysts for bringing groups together within a community to improve. The foundation considered 112 applications for the grants. Two Greater Des Moines organizations receiving grants were Dallas County Public Health, awarded $19,190 for the Perry Elementary Walking School Bus Program; and United Way of Central Iowa, which received $25,000 for its United Way Health Connect Pilot Project.
