In covering the education and human resources beat, I hear numerous pitches from Greater Des Moines nonprofit organizations to write about the innovative approaches they are taking to address workforce training and development issues.

Here are three interesting stories that rose to the top of my list of growing nonprofit organizations whose groundbreaking approaches are worth noting by employers. There’s a common thread of workplace readiness that flows through each of these stories of three nonprofits that you may not have heard of — from a program that brings the dream of college within reach for some of Des Moines’ most underprivileged students, to another that provides job training to one of the state’s largest immigrant populations, and a nonprofit that challenges Iowa college students to stretch their wings in community service before they launch their careers.
