The city of Des Moines is moving ahead with plans to demolish a gutted South Side warehouse to make way for the sale and redevelopment of the site, The Des Moines Register reported. The city's Urban Design Review Board on Tuesday recommended that the City Council use eminent domain to take possession of the abandoned warehouse at 1422 Scott Ave., which was burned by arsonists in September.  The board also recommended allocating $250,000 in urban renewal funding to help clean up the site. The structure had housed a construction material recycling business that was owned by Regency, at one time the state's largest home builder. Click here to read a related Business Record article.
