The Iowa Supreme Court ruled today that a defamation and extortion lawsuit against Gov. Terry Branstad and members of his staff brought by the state's worker's compensation commissioner should be allowed to proceed, The Des Moines Register reported. The ruling comes out of a lawsuit filed by Christopher Godfrey, who claims that Branstad and members of his staff tried to force him out of his $112,068-per-year job after the governor was elected in 2010. Godfrey was appointed to a six-year term in the position by then-Gov. Chet Culver in 2009.
