How Iowa government spending

Over the past 26 years, spending on education and health and human services has consumed the majority of state general fund spending, according to an analysis by the Iowa Legislative Services Agency. However, the share of money going toward higher education has been cut by seven percentage points over those years. The following table shows the winners and losers. The fiscal 2013 budget is approximately $7.5 billion.
