Kevin McCarthy announced today that he will resign the seat he has held for a decade in the Iowa House of Representatives. His resignation is effective Aug. 15. The next day, McCarthy will go to work for Iowa attorney general's office, where he worked from 1994 to 2001, according to a news release. McCarthy will be concentrating in three areas: a new unit that focuses on mental illness and how it impacts Iowa's criminal justice system; overseeing the office's elder fraud unit; and leading an initiative to provide more information and resources to military service members, veterans and their families, especially in the area of consumer protection, according to the release.
