Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller has filed lawsuits against four contractors, including a Pleasant Hill company, that allegedly damaged natural gas and electrical lines during excavations without first notifying Iowa One Call as required by state law.

The suits, filed Friday, allege six illegal excavations in Linn, Polk, Scott and Warren counties. According to one of the suits, Pleasant Hill-based Rain Pro Inc. damaged two natural gas lines and an electrical line during three separate excavations earlier this year in West Des Moines, Ankeny and Carlisle.

The company had not contacted Iowa One Call in advance for any of the excavations. Under a consent decree, if approved by the court, Rain Pro will pay a $10,000 civil penalty and be permanently enjoined from further violations of the One Call law.
