The Taxpayers Association of Central Iowa Wednesday
gave its first "In the Public Interest" award to Tim Moerman, Waukee's new city manager.
Moerman was honored at the association's annual meeting this morning with the group' s first-ever award recognizing a government official or employee who does an outstanding job to save tax dollars.
Moerman, who until this week, was an assistant city manager in Ankeny, was recognized for his leadership and commitment to a 2012 Capital Crossroads initiative to have Des Moines and suburban officials meet regularly to find five specific ways to reduce costs through collaboration.
Moerman's leadership helped to overcome cynicism and fear on the part of government leaders, to keep the process simple, to foster ownership among the participants, and to fund the project, nominators said.
