Kemin Industries announced it has acquired unique beta-glucan manufacturing technology from Algal Scientific, a company headquartered in Plymouth, Mich. The technology will provide the Des Moines-based global nutrition ingredient company with capabilities and products needed to further its portfolio of antibiotic alternatives for animals as well as offer important scientific advancements for humans and pets, Kemin President and CEO Chris Nelson said in a release. Algal Scientific focuses on solutions for animal and human nutrition using an algae production system; the technology produces highly concentrated products to support gut health in both animals and humans. These products are available for sale in many regions globally, and Kemin said it will work to expand product registrations immediately. With the acquisition, Kemin has added the inventors and nearly a dozen new employees with expertise in both production and research to its team.
