Iowa added 700 jobs between January and February, bringing its year-to-date growth to 1,000, the Associated General Contractors said. Overall, 65,700 construction workers were on the job in February. Iowa was among 35 states that saw an increase in construction employment in February, when a total of 48,000 workers were added to payrolls, according to a news release. The association said the rebound in construction employment in many parts of the country is occurring despite a 17 percent decline in public sector construction spending during the past four years. Additional spending cuts, including $4 billion from construction under the federal budget sequester, could slow job growth.
