Multifamily housing developments in five Greater Des Moines communities will receive $14.5 million in federal funds for new construction. The Iowa Economic Development Authority on Monday allocated these grants: East Village Growth Partners LLC $3 million for 20 residential units in a mixed retail, office and residential project in Des Moines; Community Housing Initiatives $3 million for 26 units at Valley Station Phase II in West Des Moines; Grimes Crossing Senior Apartments LLC $3 million for 30 units at Grimes Crossing Senior Apartments; Hubbell Realty Co. $2.5 million for 44 units at Danamere Village Townhomes in Carlisle and $3 million for 60 units at Cedarbrooke Place II in Norwalk. In all, projects in 19 Iowa cities will receive $52 million in federal Community Development Block Grants for 26 multifamily projects. The grants also include $3 million to Des Moines-based Hatch Development Group for a project in Cedar Rapids.
